Alligator is the most demanding leather I work with. It ages extraordinarily well, but it does not tolerate the mechanical friction of a buckle tongue. This is why I make it in short strap configuration the long piece on the back of the wrist, the short piece on the deployant clasp. The alligator never touches the buckle. It lasts twice as long. This piece
